Welcome

NOTICE - DUE TO ISSUES THAT DEVELOPED DURING THE RIDE I WAS UNABLE TO POST LOG ENTRIES ALONG THE WAY. THERE WERE TIME ISSUES BECAUSE OF THINGS THAT HAPPENED AND A DEFINATE LACK OF INTERNET ACCESS WITHOUT TAKING ADDITIONAL TIME TO FIND PLACES TO UPDATE THE LOG. THERE WERE SOME DAYS WHEN I JUST DID NOT HAVE THE TIME AT THE END OF THE DAY TO WRITE THE ENTRY. I JUST JOTTED DOWN SOME NOTES AND WILL WRITE THE ENTRY FOR THOSE MISSING DAYS WHEN THE RIDE IS FINISHED. NOW AS THE RIDE IS NEARING AN END AND I HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET I AM POSTING WHAT I HAVE WITHOUT PICTURES ETC. AND WILL ADD ADDITIONAL MATERIAL WHEN I GET HOME AND CAN FIND THE TIME.

Welcome to Jim's 2010 New Orleans -> West Virginia vis the Underground Railroad Ride Web Journal.  This site will receive updated journal entries as the ride progresses. It will be a ride on a touring bicycle from New Orleans, LA to Charleston, WV using primarily the Adventure Cycling Associations's (ACA) Underground Railroad Route. which pretty much stays near the coast. The highest elevation will probably be around eleven hundred feet, but there will still be plenty of hills to climb.

This site will contain a diary of the trip, and include pictures, information and as usual general musings about things that I think about along the way.

It is my intent to share some experiences, show some pictures, and perhaps philosophize on life in general.  The site will also show statistics and other information about the trip for those who like to see things like that.

The journal will be made available to family and friends and anyone else who seems interested either before or en route. Finally the link to this site will be provided to the ACA so they can post the link to provide information to others planning a similar ride.

Enjoy the log postings and share the adventure!

Sincerely,

Jim Smith
