Touchet, WA to Pomeroy, WA

Changing Terrain

We had winds and some rain while camping last night but all was dry in the AM. It was an early start waking up at 5:30 and on the road by 6:15. It was a 25 mile ride to Walla Walla, Washington (say that three times fast) for breakfast. Walla Walla is a larger town with varied services and we had some errands to run. I mailed something home Nick needed to pick up some camping gear. We both bought some supplies. I went to the lobby of a Hotel to get internet service to send my logs through yesterday home. There’s a glitch trying to send pictures home I’ll try to figure it out in the next few days. It was 11:30 by the time we were back on the road.

We left the dessert and reached wheat fields and farms. The varied terrain is amazing. We had three major changes in elevation but they were for the most part gradual and we had tail to cross winds so they were not two bad. We took a few more breaks than in previous days stopping in stores for snacks or water and chatted with more local people that in previous days. Live here appears simple but hard. Prices for everything (except gasoline [which we aren’t buying]) seem low by comparison to northeast standards.

Nick had two flats today but none for me. I think there is something in his tire. He did a through search and patched two tubes tonight. He decided on cooking some hot food while camping as he was envious last night when I was eating hot and he cold. We started making him a Pepsi stove tonight. We have to get another can tomorrow to finish it.

It was a long day even though we finished at 5:15.

One thing we learned about Pomeroy was not to eat breakfast at Nancy’s. This sums it up:

Tomorrow mourning we will ride 30 miles to Lewiston, ID for breakfast.
