Tillamook Forest, OR to Corbett, OR
Riding Through Portland

Tillamook Forest
Today was a slow day once we got back to the Portland. There was a climb we were not expecting, and a nasty one at that with a fairly steep pitch. The decent afterword made the climb worth in as in was a fairly steep pitch on the descent as well. The smooth road down was winding, had three tunnels and was in a forested area. With a top speed hitting 41 MPH it was just plain fun. I told Nick that what I like about is the reward you get for hard work.
The lunch we had at a street café in Beaverton reminded me of Quebec or France with the street show effect of different people like in LA thrown in for good extra. It was a hoot.

Lunch In Beaverton, OR
It was slow going from there through the city in Portland, OR with city streets and traffic lights. We were hoping to clock another 100 but going through the city took a lot of time.
We finally reached a section of one of the established cycling routes, the Lewis and Clark Trail route. We had trouble finding the campground shown on the map and had to ask for directions. After we found it we stopped at a general store to pick up some supplies. We talked with the clerk and she told us that they only go to school Monday through Thursday, and are off on every Friday. We are camping tonight at a commercial campground on the Old Columbia River Highway. It was good to get a hot shower.

There were a group of guys staying at the site next to us from Canada who play bicycle polo. They are here for a couple of games. Their bikes are basically modified hard tail mountain bikes with the handle bar cut short on the side that they wield the mallet. We talked a bit to get an understanding on how the game is played.
Nick and I are getting to know a lot about each other. I’m glad to be riding with him.
